What makes proprietary (non-free) software so bad?
It may contain unwanted "features" like spy-ware and lock-out schemes like DRM, designed to limit your ability to use the product.
You may think you own a copy of the program, but you are often only buying a "license to use" the software which could be revoked at any time.
It forces programmers from different companies to waste time and money by reinventing the wheel.
The price paid for the software often goes to pay patent lawyers instead of programmers.
